Topic: nVidia buys ULi
Whoops - nVidia just went and bought chipset manufacturer ULi for a small USD$48m in pocket change (1 2). Now that might not be a big deal on it's own, but consider this and then it does become one:

ULi were making alternative South Bridges for ATI based motherboards. ATI still make their own north bridges, but the ATI south bridges were so crap, that manufacturers have just been using ULi chips.
As a result ATI have just started pushing ULi's chips. However, ATI were relying on a number of patents that ULi owned - which are now owned by their major competitor due to the buyout.
